Spanish Alejandro Mesonero Romanos Appointed Alfa Romeo Design Director. As of July 1, he will lead the Italian brand’s style division.
Without a doubt, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos (Madrid, 1968) is one of the most recognized car designers in Europe. His career and work are well known and he has extensive experience since he joined the Seat Design Department in Martorell in 1995 . Six years later he would sign for Renault and between 2009 and 2011 he went to South Korea to take charge of the design projects of the local brand Samsung belonging to the French group.
In the summer of 2011 he returned home to Seat, a manufacturer with which he has achieved his greatest professional achievements, also collaborating with the success of the Spanish brand in the last decade. His have been the designs of the last generations of the Ibiza or the León, the Ateca, the brand’s first SUV, the Arona or the launch of the Cupra banner with the Formentor as the first product.
In fact, Luca de Meo , when in the middle of last year he left the presidency of Seat to lead the Renault group, he took him with him so that he will be in charge of the same tasks at Dacia.
The truth is that this experience was very brief and in just over five months he left the company. As of July 1, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos will put his knowledge at the service of the Stellantis Group depending on Jean-Pierre Ploué, Chief Design Officer of this group.
From now on, the Spanish designer will focus on the renovation of Alfa Romeo , leading the electrification and modernization process of a brand that has an intense work ahead of it in order to conquer a gap among the premium brands.
