How To Know If You Can Use Windows 11 On Your Computer

Microsoft has increased the requirements for Windows 11

Microsoft has confirmed that the minimum requirements to use Windows 11 have been raised compared to Windows 10; therefore, although the update is free, you may not be able to use the new operating system.

After months of rumors, Windows 11 is official , and it comes with all the news that was leaked, including the craziest. From the new start menu and the new task bar, to the compatibility with Android apps ; in effect, you will be able to use TikTok on the desktop while you work on that Word document, at the same time that you talk with your family through Microsoft Teams integrated into the taskbar.

There are many new features, and to that we must add that Microsoft has promised performance improvements. Enjoying these benefits will be very easy, as Windows 11 will arrive as a free update for all Windows 10 users; next fall, we’ll just have to update the system ?? if we can.

Windows 11 will be a free update for Windows 10
That Windows 11 is free does not mean that you will be able to use it, because it is the most demanding system in the history of Microsoft. In fact, the company has made the surprising decision to abandon millions of users who are using Windows 10 without problems right now.

In the list of minimum requirements, the big news is that Windows 11 will only be compatible with 64-bit processors ; all modern computers, at least for several years now, are compatible. But if we have an old computer, it may not be able to run Windows 11.

This is a necessary change for Microsoft, so that it does not have to support multiple versions of Windows at the same time; it should also translate into a lighter and simpler system. However, 32-bit apps will continue to work without problems, as compatibility is preserved; we will be able to continue using the older programs or those that have not yet made the leap to 64 bits.

Another important change, but that will affect manufacturers more, is that now we will need 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM , so Windows 11 will not be able to go in very cheap systems that cut back on those aspects.

Windows 11 requirements
– 64-bit dual-core processor

– Minimum frequency of 1 GHz

– 64GB storage

– 4 GB RAM

– Motherboard with UEFI, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0

– Screen of at least 9 inches

– Resolution of at least 1366 x 768 pixels.

– DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.x compatible graphics

How to know if we can use Windows 11
Since the requirements have changed compared to Windows 10, Microsoft has launched an application that allows us to directly check if our computer is compatible. The operation is very simple: we just have to download the app from the Microsoft page and run it, clicking on “Install” on the screen that appears.

The Windows 11 compatibility app
When finished, a program will be displayed that will analyze the status of our equipment. We have to click on “Check now”, and in an instant a pop-up window will inform us if our computer can run Windows 11.

If we can use Windows 11, this window will appear
However, we must bear in mind that this tool is too harsh with some requirements , and that it is very possible that it will tell us that we cannot run Windows 11, although in reality we will not have problems.

If we cannot use Windows 11, this window will appear
For example, if we don’t have enough disk space for the update, or if we don’t have the latest Windows 10 updates installed, the program will display that error.
